This Would Be Neat In SG Tinplate

This is a 1930s era Maerklin 0 gauge Zeppelin rail car and some Maerklin prewar 0 gauge tinplate accessories I've collected this summer. Soon they'll go on the home layout. The rail car was made in both 0 gauge and 1 Gauge. The propeller spins and is powered by the rear wheels. It would make an interesting Standard gauge piece.

Mind numbling nice auto...

James Cagney had a quip in the movie "Public Enemy", "Be careful with that car, it ain't no Ford, it has gears." I might not be getting the quote right. This Ford is really amazing in person. My son and I hung out for almost 15 minutes around this car alone. The blue car behind it was also brilliant (tiny but brilliant).

Quite a difference from the plastic crap at airports today....

Another Shot of the Lamp

Blow this one up (click on the picture). Check out the awesomeness of these lights.

The lights are on!

Ok, so who needed the light for the 408E? This is the Danbury Railway Museum this weekend (they did a mini-car show and a train show/ride).

I saw the middle lamp and was blown away at the similarity to the 408E stock lamp (and almost all of the prewar lamps on the trains).

Mint Plot at Fave Store

It's mint and I don't have the money or room for it on my layout. It's still glorious!

Another shot of this amazing station platform. I've never seen one like this. Blow it up and look inside, it has some wonderful details. This should be made in standard gauge. I've seen plenty of prewar pics of these in the United States. Talk about an amazing, layout making, innovative accessory!

Addams Family Layout

This was sent to my by a friend, I did some research and it was pulled from the Addamsfamily.com website. If they mind me posting it I will remove it. I've never actually seen the whole layout before.

Still, it is pretty nice nonetheless. It shows that fabulous Gomez Addams layout that everyone watched on the show. I watched so many Addams Family shows just to see this layout and John Astin destroying the trains. It was absolutely brilliant. I could never tell what the layout looked like (until now that is). It's actually a pretty involved layout. The collisions were absolutely priceless. I never had the guts to fry a train like Gomez Addams, now GI Joe's, that was another story entirely....

Voltamp A-Rama

I don't think I've seen this many variations of Voltamp anywhere! In person these are quite a bit different than what you read about. I see why people collect them now. I couldn't see the value before. They are quite a bit different than the stock Lionel prewar stuff. I am very partial to Lionel Prewar Knobby Roof Daycoaches. These have to be my second favorite!

Stout Auction is Up (Sept. 18th and 19th)

Some very nice standard gauge at the next Stout Auction. Mostly prewar Lionel stuff with a little Flyer mixed in. You'll have to poke through a ton of stuff that Standard Gauge folks don't go for (like brass HO stuff). Nonetheless, still a heck of an auction.

Smokin Nice Tunnel

Who says accessories aren't as exciting as any motive power? This tunnel is something impressive in person. These weren't made to last 70 years, yet here it is! In pristine condition no less.

Completely original pair of 2 7/8 gauge Jail Cars. How often do you see these in a train store? And in this kind of condition? I think I stopped by on the right day!

Wow.

Fave Store #6

Here's one of those train items I've never seen in person. NOW THIS IS A CANOPY! I took another picture of it, there is more detail inside. This thing is absolutely spectacular in person. I know this thing is European (my guess is probably Bing or Fandor); I like metal toys and this is it. You can't tell me this wouldn't look great with just about any gauge running under it. Amazing.

The MTH repro isn't bad but an original is still better. I saw several of these engines at the store. Again, I've only seen this original once.

Fave Store #4

Here's one of those things I've never seen before. I don't actually have any idea what it is, I can guess it is an electric hand crank to run your trains with. Can you imagine a kid cranking away at this thing on Christmas morning?

Let me know your thoughts on this item!

I had a mild seizure when I saw all of these 400e's. Just expand the picture a bit and drink it in...

Favorite Train Store cont. 2

I know, everyone sees them all of the time. Well, no, not all original Comets and Girards and 392's all on the same shelf. World class standard gauge folks. The real deal. These aren't knock offs and they are not far from where they were born (Jersey).

Favorite Train Store Cont.

Anyone care to guess? It's an original Ives Circus Tent. I've seen plenty of repros but never an original and in almost like new condition. In this case I will use the word correctly: rare!

Favorite Trainstore

I don't say this about just anyplace. I was rolling around Parsippany, NJ today and I came across my favorite train store of all time. It's been about 13 years since I have been there and I can't believe the years went that fast! And far too quickly. And I really should stop by here at least once a year if not once a month. This is the Train Collectors Warehouse in Parsippany, NJ. If you like standard gauge and you want to speak to some of the MOST knowledgable people about toy trains anywhere (especially old Lionel, Flyer, etc.) this is the destination.

I took some pictures to follow up on this. I saw some stuff today I have actually never seen before. Voltamp, Boucher and the like. I am glad I happened upon this place again. The owners (Morgan and Predeville) are just plain good people that really know their stuff. Ed's son works in the shop as well and he is definitely an expert in his own right. I saw plenty of original 2 7/8 gauge today and some other items that just plain knocked my socks off.

I will post some pics later, watch out for them! Go see these guys, this is one of those "I wish I had when I had the chance." types of places. Even if you can't afford that Comet set it's worth the time, effort and money to see what they have and if they can get you that one elusive item you need (or have never seen). Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

New Toy Train Idea....

I've often thought this might be a great adjunct to the Delker Helix. Check out this Youtube and let me know what 70 year old train might be capable of this feat!
