Ward Kimball II

I just saw this pic on Noel Barrett's site and I had to post it. This engine is really gorgeous. Does anyone else have one of these things? Any thoughts on what it might go for?

that' a Knapp cast iron steeple cab. I understand it is repainted, but I can't verify that. The last one I saw on the open market went for $9k with box. A much more "common" Knapp cast iron 040 (#222) sold for around $12000 in the last Kimball auction - about 2-3 times more than I had previously seen them sell for - and I expect this will go for about the same amount. Doesn't matter if its repainted, unless its listed as repainted by Noel Barrett the ultimate buyer will convince himself it is original and rumors of repaint are just that - rumors. There were equal rumors about some of the stuff in the first auction that then went on to set record prices.

Some of these rumors are going to stay just that; when there are huge bucks on the line, nobody wants to deal with litigation. Let's just leave it at rumors. Scary though, that kind of cash for something that might not be a museum peice....

I know of at least one fortunate person that has one of these - he posted on the CTT forum last year, asking about it. You can read the thread here. That was one of the most interesting threads that I have ever read on an online forum!
