Twentieth Century Limited

Here's a nice shot of the 20th Century Limited Tail Car. These were made by JAD and Richart. This one is actually much nicer than the version that just recently sold on eBay.

The castings on it are excellent. It really is done like Lionel would have done it in the 1930's.

Dick Mayer was saying that the engine that pulled this really should be not be a streamliner but something like an American Flyer Brass Piper. He said something close to a Hudson should be at the front of these types of cars. All I could think of was a 400E. Anyone have any other ideas on what should pull these?

What should pull these cars? Not sure, but Lionel sold 0 gauge RailChief cars that looked like these with their scale 0 gauge Hudson back in the 30s and again in 1990 when they re-issued the scale 1-700E Hudson. Of course, we don't have a regular production standard gauge Hudson to consider. I do own a home made standard gauge Hudson, which would look great pulling these cars. Jim Kelly

Jim,
Do you have any pics of your home made Hudson? I know about the Lionel originals and I was always curious to see what a Hudson would look like in Standard Gauge.

I've seen a few but they always looked like hopped up 400E's.

My Hudson actually looks like a Hudson. The McCoy motor has three drivers. When I get back to Philly I'll send in some pics.

That would be awesome. I'd love to see a hudson in standard gauge!
