Standard Gauge Stomping Ground (Coldspring, NY)

Ok, a while back I promised I would pen a little article on some of my favorite stomping grounds for getting great standard gauge. Well, here is one long string of pictures on a great place to go and it just happens to have standard gauge: Coldspring, New York.

For the last 20 years or so of his life, TV's Captain Kangaroo, Bob Keeshan, resided in Cold Spring. I did a magic show once in the beautiful town library, and the librarian told me that she knew Bob, but that the townspeople were very protective of him and did everything in their power to keep outsiders from running into him. I wanted to ask him some questions about some of the great old vfariety acts he used to have on his show as guests. Cold Spring is, indeed, a lovely little burg. Did you ride the train through Ossining (Sing-Sing)?

Reason enough to love the place! I actually cried when Bob Keeshan past away. I grew up watching that man and wish that today television had his kind of kindness, decency and intelligence.

I have been on that train several times(the Hudson Line) however I have never actually been on it to Cold Spring. It is an absolutely gorgeous ride. I highly recommend it for anyone that has the time and a couple of bucks.
